Land-Use Board

The Land Use Board provides the Common Council with recommendations regarding policies related to planning, land use regulations, zoning, and community development. In addition, the Land Use Board performs all appropriate functions associated with:

  • Preparation, adoption, or amendment of the City’s Master Plan
  • Maintaining Zoning Map
  • Determining property suitability within the City Plan
  • Reviewing Land Use Development Applications and granting approval

Considerations

To determine compliance with the City Plan, we consider the following criteria for property use:
  • Setback from property lines
  • Provision for adequate parking
  • Impact on traffic patterns both foot and vehicular
  • Trash receptacle placement, pickup/drop-off areas, etc.

In addition, applications may be reviewed by the following divisions and committees:

Screening Committee:

The Screening Committee is a helpful resource provided by the Land Use Board to assist the public with their applications for land and property development. This informal committee reviews various factors such as adequate parking, days and hours of operation, ingress and egress, environmental concerns, number of employees, and drainage.

To obtain a screening committee application, please contact the Land Use Board secretary.

Those who wish to have their application reviewed by the committee must submit a letter to the Land Use Board Secretary with detailed information including:

  • Exact location
  • A survey (if building is proposed)
  • Contact information
