Division of Code Enforcement

Under the supervision of the Construction Official, the Division of Code Enforcement is responsible for conducting inspections throughout the City to ensure compliance with the City's codes and ordinances and the International Property Maintenance Code. These codes help protect the health and welfare of our residents, businesses, and visitors by establishing minimum standards for the maintenance of properties in the City of Burlington. In addition, the Division of Code Enforcement performs all appropriate functions associated with:

  • Rental Housing Inspections
  • Resale of Property Inspections
  • Tenant Change Inspections
  • New Landlord Registration
  • Vacant Property Registration
  • Lead Safe Certificate
  • Various inspections including but not limited to:
    • Overgrown grass and vegetation
    • Exterior maintenance of buildings, parking lots, curbs, and sidewalks
    • Infestations
    • Dumpsters and Illegal dumping
